This performance commemorated the democratization of art. In France, until the Revolution, the royal art collection was strictly for the private pleasure of the Court. Not until Louis XVI was the idea of a museum realized, when on 10 August 1793, the Musee de la Republique opened to the public. A soundtrack of music and fireworks morphs into sounds of gunshots and revolution as the audience s served a large sheet cake decorated with the floor-plan of the louvre.
