Students will produce a short sound production demonstrating the correct use of a mixing board in a live environment. They will identify the various microphone types and use the correct microphone according the microphone properties and the recording situation. They will play back and mix sound from at least 2 digital or analogue, microphone and/or line sources. They will master record the mix to an appropriate media. Students will individually record a single camera interview to include camera, tripod, sound and lighting setup and operation to an industry level using professional equipment. They will identify the various parts in a tripod and demonstrate the proper set up and take down of a tripod. They will identify the various controls in a camera and demonstrate their proper use by operating the camera in a variety of shooting situations. They will again identify the various microphone types and use the correct microphone according the microphone properties and the recording situation. Students will identify different lights and correctly use/apply them according to their properties and the recording situation. Students will identify the various cables used for video, audio and power connections and demonstrate how to use them in a safe manner. Students will then edit their shot material on Final Cut Pro demonstrating a basic understanding of the non-linear editing system and its basic functions. The students will be expected to deliver their edited piece onto Mini DV, CD and DVD. Students will conduct themselves in a professional manner, show a willingness to share ideas, cooperate, and support their classmates, organize and prioritize their time, meet deadlines, participate willingly in a team, accept constructive criticism, work independently when needed, and assume responsibility for their actions and conduct both on campus and off while producing materials for this course. This course will be taught as a combination of theory and practice. It wi ll use relevant resource materials in print, web and CD ROM form, as well as practical workshops and project based learning with the available equipment at each college.
